What we make
- Mods. Custom firmware: small, careful changes to an instrument’s official firmware, in packs, so you install only what you want. SuperFreaker V1 for the Arturia MicroFreak and Side-Piece for the Roland SP-404MKII are releasing soon; firmware for the Arturia BeatStep Pro is on the bench. See them all in the store.
- Tools. Free, browser-based helpers like the SP-404 Screen Loader and the MicroFreak Patch Generator.
- Simulators. Playable 3D models of each instrument with hands-on lessons, so you can learn a feature before it goes anywhere near your hardware.
Three instruments so far, with more to come. Got one you’d like us to open up? Tell us.
How we work
- Diffs only. We never host, share or link anyone’s firmware. You bring the official file; our tools change it on your own computer and check it’s the exact version they expect before they touch a byte.
- The simulator first. Every feature is built, tested in an emulator and playable in the simulator before it’s flashed.
- Launch gates. Nothing is downloadable until that exact build has been flashed and played on our own unit, the recovery guide has been rehearsed end to end, and the terms have had a legal review. Paid packs also need ten clean beta reports.
- Ports are free. When a maker releases new firmware, owners get the ported packs at no charge, on a best-effort schedule.
The small print
We aren’t affiliated with Arturia or Roland, and they don’t endorse anything here. MicroFreak, BeatStep Pro and SP-404MKII are their product names, used only to say what our work runs on. The simulators are written from manuals and from watching what the instruments do; none of the makers’ code or samples are in them.
